Helping Landowners to Access Grants for Conservation Projects

Protecting Farmland, Enabling a Community Farm

We are working to support a growing community of organic farmers on protected land.

We are preparing to raise funds to buy a farm for new and/or young small-scale ecological farmers. The Langford Conservancy will hold the land, protect it with a conservation easement and provide ground leases (long-term leases) to several small-scale farmers.

This approach is based on the successful model of Equity Trust and the “Tools for Preserving Affordable Working Farms” from Land for Good.  To learn more about these tools to make farmland affordable and available for farmers, watch this video.

We will be launching a campaign to sell community bonds to raise funds to buy a farm, with a fundraising goal of $2,000,000. Our campaign will follow the very successful model of the Centre for Social Innovation (CSI). We will work with Tapestry to develop a community bond package and to meet fiduciary responsibilities. Investors will be given a chance to invest and receive interest on their investment.
